    Overview

“I experienced a few epiphanies during the years I spent in my skincare practice. I think the most important one was about self-esteem and it’s relationship to beauty. I spent years listening to women speak about what they see as their facial imperfections, and recently read that only two percent of all women around the world consider themselves beautiful. But the truth is we are not separate from the beauty we seek. Beauty surrounds us.

It's a bit like the Japanese concept of wabi sabi, that pared down to its essence is where the real beauty lies. It's to give voice to the thought that real beauty is never perfect, not elusive, but lies in the cracks and crevices of our lives every minute of the day”

You may have noticed we don’t use the term anti-aging when describing our skin care. This is intentional. Anti-aging goes against nature. And it is our belief that beauty is found when we realign ourselves with nature. The concept of anti-aging reinforces a toxic, disempowering, and shallow concept of beauty.

Instead, we choose to lean towards the ‘light’, we believe that authentic beauty is deep and sacred and not only goes beyond the physical, but has little to do with physical appearance. It is a nature concept, a philosophy that embraces, uplifts, welcomes and empowers everyone.

We are well acquainted with the nature, rhythms and requirements of mature skin. Our products are formulated to support, nurture, nourish, and enhance mature skin. As the body ages, there are hormonal, and physical changes that occur that are normal and to be expected.

Mature skin isn’t an imbalance, and we don’t address it as if it is.

We suggest starting with the dominant imbalance which is most often a mixture of dehydration, sensitivity, and a lack of oil (sebum) production. Estrogen is responsible for plumping the skin and as estrogen levels fall during the peri menopause and menopausal years the plumpness of youth disappears.

    Caring for
    Mature Skin

The typical goals for mature skin are to enhance suppleness and firmness while minimizing fine-lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

Doing a facial massage on yourself at home, or getting regular monthly facials stimulates circulation and lymphatic drainage minimizing the appearance of puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, and can help to sculpt and define the face. While practicing self face massage, make sure to always massage upwards, with slow, gentle and intentional movements. This is a time for self care, pampering and relaxing!

A nourishing diet filled with antioxidants, essential fatty acids, high quality protein, and lots of vegetables is also an important step in creating radiant, nourished and supple mature skin. Bone broth provides a good dose of hyaluronic acid, collagen building-blocks, and an array of other skin nourishing nutrients. Focus on the nourishing fats you find in things like avocados, coconut, salmon, mackerel, butter and ghee. Let your ‘treats’ be antioxidant rich fruit, like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries. And most especially, you want to avoid inflammatory, oxidative and glycation-inducing foods like processed flours, and refined sugars such as high fructose corn syrup (agave).

As with all skin, our foundational protocol is the twice daily application of an Oil Serum and a HydroSoul. This pairing deeply nourishes, hydrates, moisturizes, tones, balances pH, and re-establishes a healthy hydrolipid barrier, which is essential for all skin function and true skin health and radiance. Combine that with daily gentle cleansing, daily sunscreen application, and a weekly clay mask, and you will have all your bases covered.

Mature skin asks for fortifying, antioxidant rich plant ingredients. To best support mature skin we begin by nutrients, hydration, and moisture. Choosing only the most potent, nutrient and antioxidant rich products to feed your skin is one of the most important steps you can take in your skin care ritual. These are our top choices. HydroSouls help support mature skin with their abundance of benefical aromatic molecules, antioxidants and profound ability to deeply hydrate.

For instance Frankincense Facial Tonic HydroSoul is fortifying, revitalizing, and skin smoothing. Its ancient fragrance bestows a peaceful calm and feeling of equanimity to face and body. This special plant water is distilled from the dried resinous sap of the hardy desert frankincense tree. When wounded, the Frankincense tree produces a valuable sap to heal and repair its wound, seal in hydration, and keep out pathogens.

Pomegranate Repair Serum. This essential oil free Oil Serum is a nutrient and antioxidant powerhouse, and a veritable buffet of essential fatty acids, while also being profoundly protective, revitalizing, calming, plumping and restorative. It is our first choice for skin that needs extra nourishment and support, and is ideal for mature skin. If your main focus is centered around sun damage — Rosehip Treatment Serum - Blue is an excellent choice

A weekly, or even twice-weekly, Clay Mask is another essential step in supporting and creating mesmerizing luminescence in mature skin. Restorative and refining, clay is a sustainable and long-term replacement for harsh exfoliation treatments like acids, enzymes and peels. A weekly clay mask absorbs dead skin cells, refines and exfoliates, revealing fresh, soft, firm and resilient skin without disturbing the skin’s protective acid mantle. The epidermal layer is there for a reason!

Clay is also rich in minerals, especially silica, the skin mineral nourishes and fortifies the skin with each use. Minerals are the building blocks of strong, resilient and firm skin. We offer two Clay Masks: French Rose Clay for delicate to normal skin, and Green Tea Clay Mask for normal to oily skin. However, both Clays are appropriate for most skin conditions without any problem.

Another addition that is a dream for mature skin is our Sea Algae Serum — just a pump or two, either applied when skin is still damp from HydroSoul, or added to the palm of your hand and blended with your Oil Serum. Bio-fermented kelp extract, microalgae extract, CoQ10, hyaluronic acid, and gotu kola (centella asiatica) unite to created a firming, hydrating, plumping, nourishing, restorative and cooling gel serum.

And finally, daily application of our Sheer Tint Sun Stick SPF 30 actively prevents sun damage, while nourishing and softening the skin and preventing transepidermal water loss. It also supplies a very sheer tint to help even out skin tone.
