Skin goes through cycles and phases. To best support it we must be observant caretakers, watching for its rhythms, messages and any unexpected disharmony that comes up. Seasonal skin care is a practice that addresses the way the current season might be affecting/disrupting skin and then taking the necessary steps to restore the skin back to a place of balance, resilience and health. It’s also a wonderful and effective way to cultivate awareness around the current state of your skin and begin to understand how to treat it accordingly.
Spring is the time when the world awakens. Shaking the sleepy frost of winter from its wings, it reinfuses the earth with life. Buds emerge on trees, sap rises under bark and sprouts push their way out of the soil. Movement is here. The lifted weight of a long winter can bring change in everything from our clothing to our moods, and most certainly in our skin as well. Warmer weather softens the harshness of winter skin, but can also bring disruption. If we meet this transformative time with open minds, Spring becomes an opportunity to clear stagnation, start fresh and recalibrate.
Enter the Ritual of Renewal
After the hibernation and stagnation of winter, skin may be left dull, exhausted, congested and imbalanced. Let Spring be a time to infuse, enliven and harmonize. A time to plant the seeds for the skin you want. It is the perfect time to integrate richer and more thorough skin rituals into your life.
To help you navigate how to best care for your skin during this liminal season, we’ve created a simple, refreshing and nourishing spring skin ritual that will empower your skin to thrive during these changing, blossoming spring days. Awaken. Hydrate. Nourish. Rejuvenate. Purify.
Pillars of our Spring Skin Ritual
with Rose Cleansing Milk
After a harsh winter, skin is left in a state of imbalance and likely distressed. Our Rose Cleansing Milk meets the task at hand, guiding skin back to a state of harmony and balance. Featuring one of our most cherished skin allies, Rose Geranium, this cleanser helps skin adapt to stress and change while regulating moisture content. This unique cleanser is a combination of both rose geranium hydrosol and oil, as well as clay, aloe vera gel, yucca root, gotu kola and shea butter. Containing no wax, Rose Cleansing Milk doesn’t leave a film on the skin the way most milky cleansers do.
with Rose Geranium HydroSoul
A true dermal adaptogen. Indigenous to Africa, rose geranium now lives and thrives around the world. It grows easily, almost profusely, and has an ability to thrive nearly anywhere. Rose geranium’s ability to thrive wherever it lands communicates to the astute observer its tremendous resilience.
Like all our HydroSoul offerings, it is 100% fresh plant material and nothing else, distilled in alembic copper at low temperatures over the course of several hours. Mist regularly throughout the day for blemished or irritated skin and incorporate into your spring skin daily Oil & Water Ritual.
with Neem Immortelle Purifying Infusion
This powerful plant duo synergizes to decongest clogged pores and calm redness, blemishes and sensitivity. Both Neem and Immortelle are wonderful allies for dehydrated, dry or flaky skin. Together, they work to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and help sustain smooth skin. Apply Neem Immortelle Purifying Infusion to skin with a HydroSoul as your Oil & Water Ritual to create moisture and hydration. Alternatively, massage this purifying infusion into dry skin and remove with a steamy washcloth for a deep oil cleanse, or add a pump or two into the base of your clay masking step for a deeper exfoliation and antioxidant boost. Neem Immortelle can also be used as a spot treatment for blemished skin, and it is our Oil Serum of choice for spring skin.
with Patchouli Frankincense Face Balm
One of our favorite techniques for creating truly moisturized skin involves sealing in the lush moisture and hydration created through an application of Oil Serum & HydroSoul with an occlusive layer. Patchouli Frankincense Rejuvenation Balm provides multi-functional moisture and rich, sealing nourishment with the ease and simplicity of a travel-friendly stick. Patchouli smoothes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while Frankincense enlivens, cools and protects. This balm is the perfect companion for parched and depleted skin in need of nurturing care.
Our Face Balms are formulated for face & neck and are safe to use around the eye area. Use after applying Oil & Water or whenever and wherever skin calls for extra care.
with French Rose Clay
The heart of the spring skin ritual is frequent clay masking. Exfoliating, purifying, refining and mineralizing, clay is the perfect tool for transformation. Clay works to actively draw out metabolic impurities from the skin’s pores, absorb excess sebum and smoothe, soften and polish skin without irritating, thinning and dissolving the epidermal layer. Weekly French Rose Clay masking is ideal for dry, combination or sensitive skin. It refines the appearance of lines, wrinkles and pores and is gentle enough to be used in the morning and be out of the house fifteen minutes later with calm, luminous, compliment-encouraging skin.
Regular exfoliation through clay masking helps create the perfect foundation for healthy and resilient skin. Mask one or two times weekly.
