Sensitive Skin - Restoring Harmony and Balance

Sensitive Skin —
Restoring Harmony and Balance

Our Skin is a messenger. It communicates the state of our inner world —  both physically and emotionally —   and is the part of ourselves through which we experience the world and the world experiences us. Skin is a conduit.

Sensitive, reactive and troubled skin calls for simplicity and consistency to restore harmony and balance.

How internal and external changes affect our skin

Our Skin reflects both our biological and emotional inner-worlds. It is dynamic, alive and ever-changing. It’s the one organ we can see, and the one organ we interact with on a daily basis.

In the hectic day to day of our modern world, there are countless internal and external factors that can disrupt the skin’s natural harmony. Everything from stress, hormonal changes, seasonal shifts, air pollution, to our sleep patterns, hydration, and the food we consume. Our inner world can be displayed on skin in the form of sensitivity, heat, redness, blemishes, rashes, itchiness, dryness, and more. Reactivity in the skin can be the physical expression of a reactive and fiery emotional state. Those with a naturally passionate and driven disposition may find that the more worked up or over-worked they get, the more irritated their skin becomes.

A holistic approach to sensitive skin

As a holistic brand we believe gentle, simplistic skin care remedies are only one piece of the puzzle. Perhaps prescribe yourself a walk in the wilderness, some time to stretch, do yoga or meditate, sit down with a cup of tea and escape into a book, allow yourself an extra hour to sleep in, spend time talking with a close friend, take a moment to inhale deeply and slowly exhale, hydrate. Slow down, look within, and give your body, mind and soul what it calls for.

What is sensitive skin?

The most common skin conditions we hear about from our customers are eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and perioral dermatitis. There seems to be a running similarity between these skin disorders: they share a common denominator of inflamed, red, irritated, stinging, itchy skin, with small papules or lesions.

While sensitive skin includes all of these common skin conditions, it can exhibit on your skin in countless other ways and can be rooted in a seasonal shift, hormonal changes, or even moving to a new apartment. Though it can sometimes be difficult to determine the cause of sensitivity, for all these conditions we suggest implementing a consistent skin care routine that features simple, cooling treatments.
